Experimenting with AI to share insights

This week I did a little experiment with Google’s NotebookLM, a personalised AI collaborator. It’s a tool that becomes an instant expert in the sources you upload so you can collaborate with it and refine and organise your ideas.

I kept the experiment simple and shared the pages from this website with it to see how it sorted and translated all the information on here. I was surprised to see an audio file load within a few seconds. And even more surprised to hear what sounds like a podcast review on Apply Design’s services and intentions!

Take and listen and see what you think:

It’s not 100% accurate but it’s really not bad!

The two AI hosts have an interesting conversation about what they think Apply Design does across service design and leadership coaching.

Although it has its flaws, it’s amazing how quickly it could spin up a conversation on a few pages of information - no recording, no editing, no script-writing and no presenting needed. Pretty amazing.

I spent a little time asking some questions to understand how it had learned from the information given by asking some questions. Again it produced some pretty thorough detailed notes.

Here’s a question I asked and the results:

How does Apply Design support leaders?

Here's a detailed look at how Apply Design supports leaders, based on the sources provided:

Apply Design's Multifaceted Approach to Leadership Support

Leadership Coaching: Apply Design offers a specialised "Intentional Leader Coaching package" designed for leaders who aim to lead with integrity and based on their values. This coaching programme acknowledges the complexities of leadership, which can often feel intense and uncertain despite appearing clear and empowering from the outside. The programme equips leaders with the skills to:

  • Navigate conflict

  • Design effective responses

  • Manage and recover from triggers and overwhelm

  • Understand their impact on others

Fostering a Coaching Style: Apply Design champions a leadership style rooted in empathy, vision, and trust. This approach, aligning with the principles of Co-Active coaching, emphasises the leader's role in:

  • Empowering teams

  • Cultivating positive team cultures

  • Promoting psychological safety

Culture Design: Recognising that effective leadership extends beyond individual skills, Apply Design provides culture design services to support leaders in shaping organisational culture. These services help organisations:

  • Implement agile processes and ways of working

  • Develop leadership and team skills and behaviours

  • Utilise tools and methods for establishing and understanding company culture

Supporting Growth and Transformation: Apply Design's leadership programmes are designed to support leaders in their personal and professional growth. This includes:

  • Helping leaders understand their strengths, values and leadership style

  • Supporting leaders in setting a vision and creating a roadmap to achieve their goals

  • Encouraging leaders to step outside their comfort zones and challenge limiting beliefs

  • Promoting self-awareness and helping leaders understand how their thoughts and behaviours impact their leadership style

Enhancing Team Dynamics: Apply Design's "team is everything" philosophy highlights the importance of strong team dynamics for success. They believe that effective leaders are skilled in:

  • Building and nurturing high-performing teams

  • Creating a supportive and collaborative environment where individuals feel safe and valued

Embracing Change and Agility: Apply Design recognises the ever-evolving nature of work and equips leaders to adapt and lead through change. Their services support leaders in:

  • Promoting agile ways of working

  • Embracing change and navigating the shift towards remote work

  • Defining communication protocols, rhythms, and rituals for remote teams

Apply Design's Underlying Coaching Principles

Co-Active Coaching: Apply Design utilises the Co-Active coaching model, a "gold standard" approach recognised by the Institute of Coaching at Harvard Medical School. This model:

  • Is based on the principles of discovery, awareness, and choice

  • Helps individuals understand their actions and how they "be" in the world

  • Operates on the belief that people are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole

Transformational Coaching: Apply Design's leadership coaching incorporates elements of transformational coaching, aimed at helping individuals:

  • Achieve significant personal and professional growth

  • Develop a stronger sense of self

  • Increase their impact and influence

Apply Design's approach to supporting leaders combines practical skills development with a focus on personal growth and transformation. By equipping leaders with the right tools, mindset, and support, Apply Design aims to enable them to create more positive, collaborative, and innovative work environments.

Not too bad either! Again a few mistakes, but mostly spot on!

Whilst there are some obvious flaws and limitations with using this AI tool, I think there is a lot of potential for it’s use in the future with some tweaking.

It could help to become a knowledge library for organisations and individuals, a useful resource for citations and note sharing, and a very quick way to make a podcast!
